Former Major League pitcher Mike Hartley has been appointed as new pitching coach for the Dutch national teams. The 53-year-old American already was on hand with the U18 squad during the MLB Spring Academies Tournament in Sant Boi, Spain last week.
Hartley has been in Europe since the 2008 season. He coached the German Baseball-Bundesliga club Heidenheim Heidekoepfe from 2008 to 2010 and from 2013 to 2014. Between 2011 and 2014 he also managed the Croatian National Team. In 2012 he was manager of the Grosseto in the Italian Baseball League.
With five different organizations Hartley appeared in 202 MLB games between 1989 and 1995. In 1994 he played for the Chiba Lotte Marines in Nippon Professional Baseball. He had an ERA of 3.70 during his career in Major League Baseball.
